I was just scanning through the photos on Walker's site. Man, he makes some beautiful guitars. He's got a nice aesthetic. I'd sure like to play this old thing. Wonder if I'll ever see a Walker in person? Roll Eyes

You certainly pay a high price for a recognized builder. But it was easier than continuing the search, and the resealability is extremely high. So from that perspective, I figured my risk wasn't so bad.

But now that I have it I can't see selling it.

Lucky I have another nice guitar coming in a year.

Ha,

Stuart

A smart investment, actually. I'm sure you're aware of Walker's used market throughout the years. They do pretty well.

thanks elambo,

the risk is that I'll kick the stink out of it playing it and take a final beating on judgement day. But I think you have to be able to throw the money away or you should not have bought it in the first place. My view is to play the guitar as much as I want and scream when I ding it. You'll hear me. But it will happen. Either that or I'll go crazy and it's very fun to play.

The neck is very comfortable.

Stuart

Check out the new (used) Walker OM Mike Joyce has in at Luthier's Collection. Very nice.

Very nice? Holy mother of pearl, "call for price" means that, if I could afford that guitar, I could afford to live in our house. Upwards of 15, I'd say, and probably closer to 20. Out my league, but I bet it's a doozy.

How bout...OMFG! Now that git might actually be worth the price Tom's mentioned. And it's available now? Not a 7 year wait?! Some prospective customer must have filed for banko Wink Glad I'm guitared up, and couldn't afford it anyway.

Hey Tom, I contacted Mike at Luthier's. Try north of 25K. Yikes.

Jaco, that north of $25K price you mention must be for the new OM. And it's new, not used. That would be a few $K higher than the price I paid some months ago.

Mike receives about 1 Walker a year.

The used 2003 000 was around $16K last time I checked. As I recall, it has a slightly narrower string spacing, based on my discussions with Kim.

Stuart,

The OM is used... was owned by Tom Brousseau briefly this spring. Not sure what happened, but after a supposed 5 year wait for it he's forced to sell it. It's supposed to be a really good one, based on John Thomas and Tim Porter that were at Kim's shop the day before it was shipped. My understanding is that Tom paid south of 20k for it...

It was purchased for less than $20k and is now being offered at over $25k? Is that realistic appreciation or an overly optimistic price tag?

Time will tell.

With waiting lists going out 5 to 7 years, it wouldn't surprise me if some of the most well respected solo luthiers are delivering guitars that have a significant appreciation factor right on the date of delivery (assuming the customer gets to lock in the price long before the delivery date; I don't know how that works with Kim and some of the others; anybody know when the sales price typically gets set?). Also, there's the value of not having to wait those 5 to 7 years, i.e. immediate gratification, but, of course, at what price.

Glad I'm not in a position to have to make those kind of choices Wink
