Thank you Ed... it is the perfect couple.

Fasthand - I saw a mid-40's D28 for sale at a local guitar shop that also had that mojo look going on. I can't remember how much it cost but I think it was sub-$10k. It was horribly muffled sounding even with new strings. On the other hand I have played 30's D18's that left me awestruck.

Bar you described what I was hearing , muffled is exactly how it sounded , I am hooked on Collings clarity, hey sounds like you have the pairing I would love to have but if my D-1A is all I ever aquire then I will be very happy to have it
