In 93, I wrote A letter to them. Nicks' assistant or whomever, (Jean?) wrote me a very nice, detailed reply. At that time, one could commisssion a guitar for $2400. I was tempted as I'd read good things about Nicks' guitars but the two year wait quoted, seemed a bit much. I wound up with a Collings (four years later) and am happy with it. Sounds like the Franklin would have been a better investment.

SK

there is no website.

Just an email address.

And only store selling them is Luthiers collection re receiving new ones - to my knowledge.

But you can still order direct.

Stuart

You can PM me about this you like, but what's the price point we're talking here? I just looked at the OM pictures on Luthier's Collection's website...great lines. So clean.

I first meet Nick in 1972 when he came to my guitar store in Birmingham, MI looking for work as a repair guy. A couple of years later I gave Nick an OM 28 that I had purchased and asked him to use it as a model. I am still friends with Nick today. When I moved myself and mail order company, Guitars Friend, to Sandpoint, ID in 1976 I invited Nick to set up shop there. Until 1981 or there about I sold hundreds of Franklin Guitars. I also sold hundreds of Givens Guitars and Mandolins. Also thousands of Musical Tradition Dulcimers. All made in Sandpoint. In 1974 or so I was a founding partner in Great Lakes Banjos that later became Lake Banjos. The first small shop guitar that I sold were Gurians, this was in 1973 or so. I did business with Gallagher Guitars, Haskel Haile guitars, and many others along the way. If there is interest in a full retelling of this story please let me know. I just talked with Nick today. He is doing great and continuing creating his magic in guitars.

Hey Papi, you have an e-mail with contact info. Luthier's has two Franklins in now; one BZ and one Hog. A second BZ says on hold.

Mr. O, you exist. I consider you one of the unsung pivotal figures of the small-shop movement.

I have tremendous respect for what you did, back then.

I really mean it.

[The pants movement ?? as well, but I've no personal experience with that.]

I do have a couple questions regarding the OM rebirth.

It appears that Franklin was the first shop to have an OM in regular production in the post-war era (right??), however Martin made 6 as a one-shot before that.

-Did Eric Schoenberg, or the 6 Martin SOM-28s produced in 1969, have anything whatsoever to do with Franklin's OM initiative? Or even your owning your OM in the first place? [Everyone seems to credit him fully with resurrecting the OM, but if Franklin's efforts were independent..]

- Do you have any reason to suspect that when Martin finally started regularly making OMs again, this may have been in part a response to the success Franklin already had with the model?

I'd love to get, or even see, a Great Lakes banjo, they are indeed the rarity.I didn;t know you were involved with that, but I must say I'm not surprised.
