I haven't, but the back of their "mahogany Jumbo cutaway" sure looks like rosewood to me.

That's what I thought when I saw it too.

Looks like the OM mahogoney got picked up at Luthier's Collection this past week. Anyone here involved? Would love to hear a report.

Hey Mary,
Did you get to try the Franklin Prairie State ? And when you say "nice guitar" do you mean nice ,ok , or nice , great ?

Mary,

I know I already put the offer out there to do the mando comparisons at AOMS sometime, but I could also bring along my Franklin and OM1A varnish for you to compare as well... could be a fun afternoon.

dave,

i think the Franklin is very very nice. but i am a big believer in playing things before you buy them. and yes, i've played it. it has a very big voice. if you are looking for a prairie state style guitar, this is the one- at least in my book.
brian, who owns the store, is a Franklin "nut". at one point he had several of the earlier Franklins himself.

mike,

i lost my dad just before christmas so i am a moving target right now. perhaps when things settle down.

About the time this thread began I was driving from Springield Mo to Rocheport to buy a Mid-Mo mandolin in the quaint 2 story yellow house. He stayed opened for me as he was closing the doors for good. Some of you know the story and he has since reopened as Big Muddy mandolins.

I jokingly tell people I own the last Mid-Mo that was made. He took me in the back room where he showed me the OM style guitar hanging in the back room, no neck attached yet. It's builder, who shared the house was gone for the day. He was a perfectionist and never hurried anything. He wouldn't string it up until "it was the right time"

There is always something fun about a luthier's shop. Maybe it is the woodshop memories.

I wonder who is playing that Franklin today?
