The only other one I know about is Franklin Pedal Steel guitars, and I don't think many people would get those two confused.
If there are others now, could be they sprung up after he stopped building, and before he started again.
But I have heard people use terminology like you mentioned to mean that it was built solely by Nick, without assistants. Not saying that's what your guy meant, I have no idea.
