It also has such a richness and deepness in tone that impresses me every day.

Based on what I just heard, I totally agree! Wonderful sound. Wonderful playing. Not necessarily in that order Smile

thank you guys. I'm pleased to hear that these clips are useful.
@Gallopinghost: The Greven is a very good choice. You won't regret. John's guitars are worth every pence ... no they are more.
I must have another clip of my whipple creek 000-18 somewhere in my soundlibrary. Maybe I post it here when I've found it.

I think the clip of the Whipple should be on the soundcloud page now. I love this guitar. It has a perfect setting, is good balanced from highest trebles down to the bass, with a special attack a bit banjolike and ... loud. Stringed with mediums.

Wow, the whipple deserves it's own post.

I checked them out briefly a while back after seeing Robert Bowlin and they fell off the radar.

That's an incredible price for a new hand built guitar and he's got some really interesting options. Do you know if he uses a dovetail neck joint? I'll miss my Square Deal OM-18. If I can ever swing more than one guitar this will definately be filed under "future possibility". Though I doubt his prices will stay where they are for long if they keep sounding like this.

Concerning your 000. Love that mahogany bite! The trebles are there. Upper mid-overtones and punch is there. The bass is a bit less rounded than I prefer, but on the other hand it's definately not missing or boxy. Do you use bare thumb on strings? It's a big open sound in lower registry. A nice vintage balanced tone. Sound like a winner to me.

Again, thanks for taking the time to record it and share the file!

The Whipple is a winner indeed. I play the guitar with bare fingers. The sound depends a bit on how long the nails are. So at the end it's a mix of meat and nail ;-)

I think that explains the openness of the bass. Not that it's a bad thing. Like I said, I prefer it to boxy. I just like rounded bass notes.

What rounded, boxy or open means definitavely I haven't the slightest.
