Okay, one more... Peter Rowan & Tony Rice, Quartet. No banjo. Nice harmonies and some amazing picking.

Not sure about his albums but if you Utube Chris Morton, Chris is a UK flatpicker of some renown and he has about 1/2 dozen good videos up with his own special brand of flatpicked melody - very English bluegrass. I gigged for about 10 years with a bluegrass banjo player called Ian Sharp who has some of his banjo playing on UTube check out his version of John Hardy - (this might be what you are trying to avoid Jim? - but I loved it when I was playing it) I'll also second the Tony Rice and Peter Rowen album - great stuff and some lovely mandolin also.

Jim, just a warning, don't try to play Sally Gooden yourself at that speed. When mere mortals attempt it, there are at least two reported instances of fretboards igniting and fingers exploding Seriously though, I don't have a clue how David can play that fast, that accurately, for that long, with that intensity. Mindboggling.

Sure enough...here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVneff34OMAJim is a monster picker, in various styles, who doesn't seem to get many accolades.

I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone for their recommendations. The remainder of the CD's arrived yesterday (except for Clarence White's 33 Guitar Instrumentals which is due in mid-August when it releases). All I can say is: Head-spinning overload! So many great artists, so much mind-blowing musicianship and technique. I will be following up on the rest of your recommendations later, but for now The Newbie's Introduction to Bluegrass Guitar Collection (With Little or No Banjo) is as follows: - Bela Fleck - Drive
- Bryan Sutton - Bluegrass Guitar
- Bryan Sutton - Not Too Far From The Tree
- Bryan Sutton - Ready To Go
- Dale Adkins - Alone in the Red Room
- David Grier - I've Got the House to Myself
- David Grier - Lone Soldier
- The David Grisman Quintet - The David Grisman Quintet
- Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg & Edgar Meyer - Skip, Hop & Wobble
- Mike Compton & David Grier - Climbing the Walls
- Norman Blake - Whiskey Before Breakfast
- Russ Barenberg - When At Last
- Sandy Rothman and Steve Pottier - Bluegrass Guitar Duets
- Tony Rice and John Carlini - River Suite for Two Guitars
- The Tony Rice Unit - Unit of Measure
Wow. Thanks.

I'm curious to hear your report on River Suite For Two Guitars. I think that cd is a must for any acoustic player/fan.
