Leo is amazing. I've been a huge fan for a looong time. If I could have only 10% of his chops I'd die a happy man.

Several years ago I was inches away from having Leo pick on a track I was working on - this was while he was in town for a concert - but his manager called last minute and said that their schedule couldn't allow for the one-hour detour, so they canceled. She was quite nice and said that Leo had been looking forward to it and was sorry he couldn't come, but certainly I was the one who was truly let down. My excitement went from 10 to 1 in 3 seconds flat.

For some reasons this reminds me of another guitarist I highly admire... I think I'll post a clip...

Leo is coming to my neck of the woods next month so I have my ticket! This'll be about the tenth time I've seen him and I am always looking forward to his next visit, etc.

Leo is one of my all-time favorite guitar player/entertainers for sure. I'm never sure if he should be known as a fantastic guitar player who is hilariously funny, or a hilariously funny man who happens to be a fantastic guitar player!

Anyway, I can't wait...

Ever since he's been assoicated with his Taylor guitars that's all I've ever seen him use, except one concert in Carlilse, PA, a few years back when he used a Rainsong carbon fiber guitar as his six string instrument of choice. His twelve string was his usual Taylor model.

I get the impression that, when he flies to gigs, he uses his Taylors (or something else that is easily replaced, like the Rainsong) and if he can drive to a gig you'd more likely see him with one of his treasured instruments like his Olsen or Kopp, etc.

Actually, he tends to drive more often than not... He plays mainly his Taylors. I have yet to see him pull out the Olson on the road... there was a time in the late 80's that you'd see him with different guitars, but since the Taylor partnership, it's 90% Taylors. He did play a gig a couple of years ago with a solid body electric... I had buddies that were there, I didn't see it, but that would have been great to see.

He has played many a fine instrument through the years, but I am fairly certain the Olson is for home and recording, the Kopp is probably going to be reserved for the same and the others find a home in his basement where all of the "misbehavers end up" as he puts it.

You'll have a great time... he's a little different sounding than he's been over the last 20 years... his style has remained the same, but his playing has a different feeling to it than it once did. I know time does that to most people, but Leo always had his "Leo" tone and phrasing... I think the phrasing is a bit more melodic and the tone is relatively unchanged. You won't here Vaseline Machine Gun at break-neck speed anymore, nor will you here the oldies played at the same pace, but from the first note, you know it's Leo.

Oh, btw... I'm a huge fan too. Met him quite a few times and emmulated him for roughly 8 years. Then realized... it's pointless. There's only one Leo Kottke...

Have fun... that shouldn't be too difficult.
