Check out the link below for a distinctive and brilliant bluegrass group that's rightfully getting a growing amount of attention. If you like this video (silly question, I'm guessing), there are three other songs in the same setting, plus interviews with the individuals at that CMT link.
That's a great all-around performance of a beautiful song -- I especially like the lyrics and the singer's got a really excellent voice. The playing was right on the money and so were the harmonies. Thanks for the link.

I've already got the CD and y'all won't be disappointed. I won't get into a big thing about what is bluegrass and what isn't - but some of the music here I would classify as just great songs that happen to be played by a group with bluegrass instruments. It's a real kick to hear a bluegrass band fronted by a singer that would easily be at home in a Chicago style blues band.

B,Thanks for the heads-up on Steeldrivers...excellent stuff
The lady playing fiddle and singing is great but maybe smoothes them out just a tad too much? With a voice like the lead singer has they'll never be out of work.

Yep, I can see how one might feel that. Different strokes, and all that. I love her playing: you can see her classical background expressing itself, but it's mixed with all those cool bluesy licks. The blend of smooth (her) and rough (him) makes them particularly appealing to me. But the bottom line, I think, is that these are great and distinctive songs. If this band was playing typical bluegrass fare, they might be interesting to listen to a while, but they wouldn't grab you like they do. Other places to sample their music are their MySpace page, and YouTube.
Cheers!

B, thanks for the tip! Picked the Steeldrivers CD up today, and its ALL great. Man alive, can these folks write tunes (not to mention play the heck out of them). Videos are fine, but Forumites you've got to hear this band cook on a good music system (would also love to see this band live). There is something raw and right about mixing that vocal style with this music. Nice endorsement by Vince Gill also.
