I got this CD back in the summer, and liked it well enough. But with my hectic summer schedule and all the distractions of work, didn't get to listen all that much. Now that things have slowed down, I've been listening some more.
This is a terrific recording: all instrumental, good songs, including a beautiful Tim O'Brien original, great playing. Sutton is so clean and tasty it's easy to forget that he's also playing very fast and hard. I'm not a big Bourgeois fan, but he gets a world of tone and texture out of the one he plays on this album. Another virtue is that it's the same players throughout, unlike a lot of superpicker solo recordings, so it has the same general texture and feel from song to song and everything feels integrated, like it's all of a piece. If you like flatpicking, check this one out! B |

B. I picked up the album in Bozeman in June and have been listening to it since. I had just had a lot of work done on a 1945 00-18 (neck re-set etc). It sounded good but still didn't play that easily. I ordered a LH Country Boy Deluxe and traded the 00. Right out of the box it sounds great. It is a different sound than my Collings, but the D1A has 3 years of play on it, and the folks in front of the guitar sure liked the sound. That Bluegrass Guitar as well as Aubrie H Bluegrass Fiddle are my inspirations of the summer
