Hi Bill,

It's Don, not Dan. And yes, I know of Warren Hood. I believe he was a child prodigy on the violin. Hey, it's in his blood. Champ was self-taught.

I think they have released a CD of the last recordings made by Champ recently. There was a good article about him in Texas Monthly in March or April (?).

I'll have to keep an eye out for the Austin band when they come back to Houston.

Bill Frisell plays a D-1 and recently raved about it in Acoustic Guitar mag. He might not be the most well known but he is a great player.

Cody Kilby of Ricky Skaggs Kentucky Thunder Band was playing a D2H. For those not familiar, he was a past Winfield Flatpickin Champion.

would have to be Uncle Walt and Lyle Lovett. I regret that I was not aware of Walter Hyatt's music until after his death and am sorry he had to leave us so soon.

I was fortunate enough to be in the same concert hall in Greenville, SC with some of his family, including his Mother I think, when Lyle Lovett played there a few years ago. Lyle dedicated the show to Uncle Walt that night and members of the family were Lyle's special quests.

I was checking out the new Dixie Chicks album (Bryan Sutton addict) and noticed that they thank Collings Guitars among their "instrument" thanks. Also included is Taylor, and I think I've noticed them playing Taylors in the past - but, it is pretty cool that Collings are now on a #1 album.

Lyle Lovett was in town a few days ago and stopped by our local Collings dealer to play a few (he liked mine best if I remember what the sales guy said) and it sounded like Collings was still his number one baby. I also thought that Bonnie Raite (sp) played Collings. She came in too since they were doing a show together. (The sales guy said that she almost bought mine, but she already had too many guitars smile wink
