What are your sources for good high quality and complete fingerstyle tab? I'm not interested in methods, techniques and lesson books. I'm looking for actual tab to actual songs. I've just started listening to Laurence Juber and would like to try some of his stuff so things along those lines would be fun. If you've got tabs of other artists you'd like to share that'd be cool too. I'm definitely open to discovering new artists. I prefer standard tuning at this point though.

Thanks in advance,
Allen

Forrest, I saw that one on Mel Bay's website. I was concerned that the tabs aren't complete, however (I think I remember the description saying something to that effect). Do you have that book and cd set? Are the tabs complete?

I have the book/CD set. I purchased it at a local music store Saturday so I haven't had much time with it yet. I believe the CD selections are incomplete, but the tabs seem to be complete. I'll check tonight and contact you via email. Forrest.

Allen, maybe you've been there already, but you can print off the tab for the song Different Times at www.laurencejuber.com I'm not sure if it's complete or not (mostly because I'm not talented enought to play it!) If you don't have the CD 'Different Times', you should treat yourself. As you know, the guy's incredible. If only I could ever come close to playing "Off The Leash" or any of the others! I'm not sure if the book is available for that or not. There are also a lot of pretty good fingerstyle tabs at www.acousticfingerstyle.com - beatle stuff and a bunch of others. Ken

Allen, I just looked at that Different Times tab , and it's in DADGAD - you were asking about standard tuning- but hopefully it'll work for you anyway! Ken

The different times tab seems pretty close, at least the first page. That's all I've gotten through. It's sure not exactly what LJ is playing, but between the tab and the CD, I have been able to figure it out. The turn-arounds are different on CD than tab, but since what I play will be still different again, it's close enough.

It's a very cool DADGAD thing. My first attempt at DADGAD. Don't try it! It could be habit forming.

mark hanson, as well as being a superb instructor, in person and in his "accent on music" books, has detailed and complete transcriptions in a number of artist-transcription books including those dedicated to the music of leo kottke (2), paul simon, martin simpson. most, if not all of his books come with a cd (including instruction) of the whole book.

his intermediate to advanced instruction books also include transcriptions of the likes of: doc, john renborn, josh white and others. he covers virtually the whole range of fingerstyle music, as far as i can tell. i've never seen a better grasp of instruction in fingerstyle. you might visit his site at accentonmusic.com.

mark has dedicated his life to this style of music, as a teacher, composer and artist. been doin' this since about mid 70's.

hope this helps, from an old mark hanson student,

peter

Thanks for all the input everyone! I'm off on the journey now. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some time to get more serious about fingerstyle. Thanks again.

Acoustic Music Resource and Elderly probably have the greatest selections of tab books AND videos.

If you are getting into serious fingerstyle stuff, I have a HUGE collection of fingerstyle tapes I could lend to you from time to time. Maybe even bring a few to the Gathering. They come with tab books.

Check out the "Books" section at Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. Here's the link:

All sorts of good tab there.
